Your Excellency:

I am writing with concern about Arzhang Davoodi, who was arrested in October 2003 for speaking out about human rights violations. He has served over 5 years of a 15-year prison sentence and is currently believed to be in Rajaei Shahr prison, in the West of Iran, where he is not reportedly receiving adequate medical care for his medical needs. Amnesty International believes that Mr. Davoodi is a prisoner of conscience, imprisoned solely for the peaceful expression of his beliefs.  Amnesty International is an impartial human rights organization that works in many countries around the world for the unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience and an end to torture and ill-treatment. I urge you to assure that Mr. Davoodi’s urgent health care needs are met.  I also urge that his conviction be overturned, and that he receive continued and regular access to his family and lawyer while he remains in detention.

Sincerely,
