IRAN CASE: Arzhang Davoodi
Arzhang Davoodi was arrested in October 2003 for speaking out about human rights violations and convicted on charges of directing the Iranian Liberation Movement, writing a book called Secular Iran Manifesto, organizing action to undermine the state, and being involved in the production of a documentary, “Forbidden Iran”.

AI believes that Mr. Davoodi is a prisoner of conscience imprisoned solely for the peaceful expression of his beliefs.  It is concerned that writers, human rights defenders, and others have been subjected to torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, or have faced cruel punishments such as flogging.

AI Group 365 seeks the following for Mr. Davoodi

  • his immediate and unconditional release.
  • an investigation into allegations that he was tortured while imprisoned.
  • making the findings of such an investigation public.
  • any party guilty of human rights violations be brought to justice and given a prompt, fair trial.
  • continued and regular access to his family and lawyer.
  • prompt and adequate medical attention for his current health issues as needed while he remains in detention.
