35 Church Street Watertown, MA 02472 Amnesty International is an impartial human rights organization that works in many countries around the world for the unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience and an end to torture and ill-treatment.
*Prisoner of Conscience (POC): a person imprisoned for his or her beliefs, ethnic origin, sex, color, language, or sexual orientation, and has not used nor advocated violence. WHAT WE DO Group 365 is one of hundreds of Amnesty International groups that work in local communities to bring attention to issues of human rights abuses worldwide and individual prisoner of conscience cases. The group is assigned specific prisoner of conscience cases, each coordinated by a member of the group. Often working on two or three cases at a time, we continue to work on these cases until they are resolved. HOW WE DO IT We work on cases by learning as much as we can about the country. We do this through research, inviting speakers, and hosting film showings. The heart of our action consists of writing letters to government officials in the country of imprisonment and to US officials as well. Individuals participate at home through a monthly newsletter, on-line, and/or by attending our monthly meetings. All interested individuals are welcome. For more information, please e-mail to:
